Nine years have gone by since the attacks on American soil that killed 3,000 people. To this day, it is still the most vivid example of monstrous grotesqueness I have ever seen. I cannot help but to hold back tears. I do not have a long winded post for this anniversary, only pictures and a few short comments. First came Shock. Then the Horror. Then the Pain. Then Disbelief. I read this piece in The Atlantic and have wanted to blog it for a few weeks. It is entitled Untruth and Consequences by Carl M. Cannon. The first line is an eye grabber: "From Washington to FDR to Nixon, presidents have always lied. Here’s what makes George Bush different." With all the rhetoric about WMD’s, quagmires, 9/11 conspiracies, Guantanamo, etc. floating around, this article was just begging to be read. The article starts out with lies told by FDR’s aids about his health. He was in poor shape but with Allies getting ready to kick some ass in Europe and the Navy bouncing around in the Pacific it seemed prudent to lie to America about how many hours the President actually worked- at most 4 hours and day, sometimes as little as 1. It has been 4 years since we watched the cameras decend on Baghdad. I clearly remember the green night vision surveying the skyline of the capitol city, anxiously awaiting the first bomb. The country was optomistic, united, and I'm sure that even Cindy Sheehan was rooting for her son, whom she barely talks about anymore, to kill as many terrorists as he could. Party lines were rechalked in 2001 as Congress held hands, sang, and prayed for the victims of Sepetember 11. Then the bombs fell. Army 1st Lt Watada has dodged another bullet when a jusdge declared a mistrial yesterday. The leftists and family members of this coward are jumping for joy over the decision. Why did the judge declare it a mistrial? Jury tampering? Prosecution pulled an O.J.? Nope. Watada claims he did not understand a piece of paper that he signed had him going to Iraq. Ed Koch wrote a great piece that bears some mention on my blog. As this Iraq war drags on, and with 11 already dead this year, the surge of troops in Iraq (an extra 20,000) is a hot issue in Congress. I still stand by my post made earlier and we should give the Iraqi people no more than 6 months to figure out what they want to do. Koch takes the same approach sans troop surge. Here are some highlights. I have supported the war in Iraq and believe that based on the information available to the president in 2003, he was right at the time of the invasion.
