Hawaii DMV can suck it

Image
We all have our DMV horror stories, but when I left the island nation-good old boys club in 2007 I never thought I would have to deal with the backwards thinking, pain in the ass Hawaii Department of Motor Vehicles ever again. Wrong. I lost the title to one of my vehicles and asked my bank to resend their lien release form so that I could send it to HI and get a duplicate title drafted. Evidently, a lien release form signed by my bank is not good enough. The bank must send it in, because Hawaii DMV is stuck in the 1920's and is apparently not aware of the newly adopted, but widespread use of, anti-fraud measures - like telephones. A process that would take a normal DMV about 20 minutes to handle, is going to take (by my estimations) almost a month, hopefully. Hawaii has a back log of these kinds of requests and the cosmically inefficient processes of this government run organization can only accommodate 3 or 4 requests a week (month?). I called the HI DMV to see if there...

The most expensive sandwiches ever

I can't even remember the last time I had the opportunity to post something ragging on the State of Hawaii. I don't keep up with the nonsense as much anymore and usually just laugh at the ridiculousness of the island mentality in some cases. But this recent story rekindled my belief that although people are stupid where ever you go, the people who live in Hawaii are a special kind of stupid. Last week an Air Force couple was arrested for shoplifting and their 2 year old daughter placed in Child Services for about 18 hours. the condensed version of the story goes like this: Add caption The couple allegedly got lost looking for a grocery store and when they finally found a Safeway they stopped in the deli for a few sandwiches. Some stories report the couple getting lost and others do not. The wife is pregnant and needed food. Instead of paying for their food, they opened the sandwich wrappers and started munching away, allegedly intending to pay for the sandwiches a...

Better late than never

I was pleasantly surprised this morning to see that I had a comment to moderate on a post that I made back in 2004. It was about a trip to Hawaii my parents made and how I pointed out the baggies of sand you could buy at the airports and gift shops around the islands. A Hawaiian superstition states that it is bad luck to take sand off the islands for fear of angering Pele. Anyone remember the tiki doll curse from the Brady Bunch? A local woman was not pleased with my post. Here is the link to the original post and the comments. Hawaiian Superstitions

Office email

Email is the lifeblood of my organization and contributes to both its success and its detriment. The basic command of the Engish language is something I take for granted especially after having this blog for so long and really having to pay attention to how I write. Posting on other blogs is also a challenge because I don't want to come off as an illiterate ass. Here is a recent email from someone at my command. She is civilian, local, and, unfortunately, contributes to the negative stereotype that locals are stupid. Hello all, I have officially move office. I now in room 109 Supply Office. I can be reach at xxx-xxxx temporarily until my number is move. Thanks. Vr, I. (name and number changed to protect the innocent)
