Americans love a good scandal, until the next one comes along.

Image
Scandal, schmadal At this point in his presidency, I hope that Obama is a pathological liar and not as inept and clueless as he appears to be. Of course he could be a puppet for a super-secret, string pulling Freemason-esque agency, but if we want to go that far, I prefer the chain smoking, creepy old guy from The X-Files. When I examine the scandals surrounding the Obama administration I fully expect a Wachowski styleuprising to drive these people out of office. Wishful thinking, I know. People are comfortable where they are, the voters made their decision and will stand by it, either out of ignorance or by sheer head-in-the-sand prideful stubbornness. To prove this point one just needs to look at the President’s approval rating, which is now at a historic low of 41% . Whoopty freaking doo. So he has low numbers, so Bush’s approval ratings (despite dragging us into a decade + long war and running our deficit up to historical highs) are higher than Obama’s, so what if ...

Mark Steyn on Putin, Obama.

Image
Far be it from me to get all political on The Dump, however this piece by Mark Stein is one of the best I've seen in a while. This short article pretty much sums up the United States military diplomacy amateur hour last month when the our arch nemesis turned the tables on us and Putin's propaganda machine cranked out a brilliant KGB-esque op ed. "Any fourth grade history student knows socialism has failed in every country, at every time in history. President Obama and his fellow Democrats are either idiots or deliberately trying to destroy their own economy." - Vladimir Putin The US government has been a cesspool of waste, fraud and abuse for many decades now and Americans don't seem to care that the pay more-get less attitude of our elected officials has grown to unprecedented proportions. This is not a D vs. R issue, as I've pointed out time and time again- it is a government issue and our elected officials on both sides are sticking it to us...

People on government assistance stimulate the economy?

I know that I am not the smartest peanut in the turd sometimes, however I cannot wrap my head around this administration's economic recovery plan of getting more people on government assistance, specifically food stamps. Please explain to me how taking more of my money and giving it to bums will help my family and stimulate the economy by giving my money (the government took from me)  to someone who isn't working. The government takes from people and doles out the money. The government doesn't earn money like I do when I get a paycheck; the government takes money out of my paycheck. That is money I would have put back into the economy anyway, so how does taking that money and allowing someone else to spend it help anything except the lifestyle of a person who doesn't have to work for their money? Yes, that is totally fair. Here is a good summary of the last State of the Union address from last month from The Gateway Pundit: SOTU 2013: 2.6 Million More in Poverty, ...

Nothing is fair and balanced in the media

Nothing is fair and balanced in the media. This shouldn't come as a shock, but for most will not want to believe it. I have friends on both sides of the political spectrum and some can have a rational discussion while others cannot. I get it- politics is an emotional subject and people are charged with their own ideologies of how the world should be- and that includes media outlets. A lighthearted example can be seen when contrasting The Daily Show with The Colbert Report. Jon Stewart is a left leaning correspondent and rarely takes jabs at the Democratic president. When he does, they are cream puffs like his interview with Obama the other night when the issue of Libya came up. Had George Bush been on that stage and made an asinine comment about 4 dead Americans being "not optimal" Stewart would have ripped his ass. But Obama got a pass because that is what fits the show's agenda. I get it and I don't get pissed about it. The Colbert Report is pitted against ...

Putting the Nation's Budget and Debt Ceiling into perspective

Here is a lesson on cutting through the financial doublespeak from our politicians and getting down to the nitty gritty of our financial crisis by substituting the obscenely large numbers into something more tangible and relevant. U.S. Tax revenue: $2,170,000,000,000 Fed budget: $3,820,000,000,000 New debt: $ 1,650,000,000,000 National debt: $14,271,000,000,000 Recent budget cuts: $ 38,500,000,000 Let's now remove 8 zeros and pretend it's a household budget: Annual family income: $21,700 Money the family spent: $38,200 New debt on the credit card: $16,500 Outstanding balance on the credit card: $142,710 Total budget cuts: $385 If there is no hope for this family budget, then how can there be any hope for our nation's? We need new leadership in the White House. Obama had his chance for 2 years, with both the House and the Senate controlled by the Democrats, to get this economy rolling again and he failed. Cash for Clunker...

August bleakest month yet for jobless

Youch- 14 million Americans out of work with about 40% jobless for 6 months or more for the month of August.  To make matters worse, there was no increase in jobs for August - at all - and we remain stagnant at 9.1%. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over? The Times reported a few factors that contributed to this depressingly bleak outlook of the (once) great financially secure nation of the United States. Of course the debt ceiling debacle made the top of the list. Who can blame employers for cutting back hours and trimming the fat when there was so much at steak stake? Thank you, elected officials, for screwing us (again) without the common courtesy of flowers and chocolate. I have made up my mind; in 2012 I will not be voting for ANY incumbent on that ticket. Not a one. So bring it on crazy third party fruitcakes! Let's see what you got. Obama has his work cut out for him next week as he addresses a war-worn, economically depressed, record high levels of government as...

Bad things happen in 3's

Bad things happen in three's, this is especially true with celebrity deaths, but this week was a ringer for The Fates. First, earlier this week our debt ceiling was raised. It was a long process marred by sophomoric behavior on both sides and in the end the Democrats caved and Obama tried to pin the compromised on the American taxpayer under the guise of, "it has been your voices that have compelled washington to act." I don't think so, pal. Watching the recaps and reading the pundits I think the Republicans and the Democrats only got it half right. They kept their own best interests in mind and in the end we are not really that much better for it. What good is it to reduce spending and not raise taxes when we can't get people back to work? What good is a debt ceiling when the new Congress will wring their hands like a teenager with a new credit card waiting for something to break it in on. Mark my words, if Obamacare passes the resulting tax ...

Memorial Day

Image
Today is a time of remembrance when we pause, and in our own way, pay our respects to the men and women who have fought for this country, some even giving the  ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. For some Americans ('some' being a conservative number) it is just another few-and-far-between three day weekend to get drunk, sleep and have an unexpected Valentine's Day baby while most consider today the official kick off of summer. I can count on one hand the number of duty free Memorial Day weekends I had  in my 20 years of service- par for the course for most submariners and something most of us came to grips with very quickly. For most military members family separation is the highest sacrifice they will make or endure. For a growing number of military families over the last 10 years the separation anxiety is compounded by the fear of combat injury or death as our fighting force is spread thin around the world fighting what many also fear as wars we cannot win. I...

I tried

Image
I enjoy reading The Huffington Post (HP) online and I am fully aware of their left leaning agenda. To be fair, and not present myself as a hard core conservative who will not listen to the viewpoints of others, there are some very good writers for HP who shed perspective on issues I may have already have an entrenched viewpoint who will cause me to step back and rethink my position. The reader comments, however, do not.  I have never read more vitriol and hate from some of the most ignorant and reason depraved people than I have on the HP online- from both sides of center. I wanted to share an example of discourse from a recent Huffington Post headline  Obama Birth Certificate Released  where I decided to use reason, civility and facts instead of my usual posts consisting of snide, irreverent and sarcastic comments. I have tried former strategy in the past on similar message boards but was met with a barrage of name calling, ad hominem attacks and unhing...

Shutdown averted; Triad fights for credit

Image
I was in the military when the first shutdown of my lifetime happened in November of 1995. The shutdown happened the day before payday and many civilians struggled for a week while both sides bickered about which items they would negotiate with as little backlash for future votes as possible.  The second shutdown happened in December of that same year and lasted almost a month. Needless to say, a lot of people suffered- but not the military! We were paid although I really wanted to see if the loudmouths in my division were really going to refuse to show up to work if we were not going to receive pay. I tried to remind them that we are not an autonomous organization and if we were asked to work without pay while pulling weeds naked with jockstraps on our heads then that is what we would have to do.  Clinton was President and the GOP controlled both the House and the Senate, which is probably why the military continued...

Why look to open trade with other countries as the solution to boost U.S. job growth?

In an effort to boost our economy, and ladle out of the poop pot what is left of this country, the President is pushing to open our trade with our foreign friends who own most of our economy (China owns 20% of the US Treasury). Obama has been wooing President Hu of China in an effort to have the country invest in the United States even further, and also request that China stop making us look like incompetent morons by launching Chinese missiles off of our coasts. During the summit, China announced $45 billion in contracts and said it would increase its investments in the U.S. by several billion dollars — deals that Obama said will support 235,000 American jobs. That's awesome: sell out our country (even more) for a measly 235,000 jobs- most of which will be overseas?  I am still waiting for President Obama to stop following in Bush's footsteps and pass some reform that will really give our economy a boost. Financial mismanagement from 2001 to 2007 helped to create t...

Mexico is pissed at all the illegal immigrants in Mexico

Hello, Kettle? This is Pot. You're black! Evidently, the immigrants that are passing through Mexico (to illegally enter the United States) are putting a strain on the country's resources, except for the drug cartel slavery trade, of course.  The hardships migrants face in Mexico have long been a source of discomfort for a country that lobbies hard for better treatment of its own immigrants in the United States. Immigrants that the government of Mexico gladly helps to illegally enter the United States with  handy dandy pamphlets , but that is just another form of lobbying. Just in case you are feeling the urge to use common sense to appeal to the Mexican government policies on immigration, perhaps something like, "How would they like it if we sent people to Mexico illegally?", I must point out that Mexico just passed a law that does not make it illegal for people to be in their country, uh, illegally. Read the last sentence of the article . Gold, baby! I have to...

Unknown object flying near L.A.

Image
A mysterious vapor trail was caught on tape Monday night by a CBS helicopter crew. This contrail was about 35 miles off the coast of Los Angeles and it has already dropped off the radar- no pun intended. Tuesday morning the FAA said there were no planes in the area. Military officials were stumped. Correction: they told us they did not know what it was, but that it looked like it came from the water. Take a look at this shot- Really? The Pentagon doesn't know what this is? How about they know what it is but they don't know who shot it? I rode submarines for 20 years and I have seen many shots of submarine launched missiles- even from my own boat. This contrail looks very familiar to me. In fact, "military officials" told Fox News that they are confident the missile shot was not from a foreign military . How conveeeeeeeenient.... I am not a conspiracy theorist by any stretch but sometimes it is fun to dabble in the "What ifs". Hell, I have a zombie inva...

Sorry about all that syphillis, Guatemala.

Image
As the Obama administration continues its World Apology Tour 08-12, Secretary of State Clin-ton formally apologized to the Guatemalan people for human STD experiments that were carried out in 1946. For two years, and with the approval of the Guatemalan government, the U.S. intentionally infected people by offering some sexy time with infected prostitutes. Since it is almost impossible to get men to have consensual sex with prostitutes, these pioneers of disease control decided to send the prostitutes to sexually depraved men in prison and in mental health institutions. What better way to conduct a controlled study! Kathleen Sebelius, the Health and Human Services Secretary, joined in and issued a formal apology to the Central American nation and to Guatemalan residents of the United States. The Guatemalan government was not available for immediate comment, however a former Guatemalan inmate known only as Agador had this to say: "Even though we were intention...

Here is an excerpt from a Facebook conversation concerning the Matt Lauer's Sept. 27th interview with Obama. A friend of mine was concerned about her toddler's education following the interview- and rightly so. Here is a truncated segment of her post (name have been reduced to intitials) that highlights her posts ( CC ), my responses ( TK ) and a friend of hers ( ML ) who decided to chime in. Authors comments are in italics. CC : Just watched Matt Lauer's interview with President Obama on education. Makes me (remember, I'm a high school teacher) want to home school Collin, as I simply can't trust public schools to educate my child through the years. Sorry for the negativity! But you should watch the interview and decide for yourself. ML : The public school system has been in trouble for a long time. This isn't someting new. Thank you for that insightful observation, Captain Obvious. CC : ML - I haven't been a parent and a professional educator for ...
