Kick off 2006

Looking back at my blogging history I noticed that I have been woefully neglectfull of writing in this thing, the last entry being almost a month old.

In my defense, I have been off island for 2 weeks now on vacation and the holiday traveling lends no time to update your life online. A week in Albuquerque and a week in Northern CA have left us spent, sick, and anxiously awaiting my August 2007 retirement date.

The New Year is here and as Baby New Year's ass is recuperating from its arrival into 2006 I look around the streets of my neighborhood in disgust as the fireworks debris sifts slowly in the rain puddles. The park across the street is in shambles and it will take forever for the exploded papers and spent cones to be swept away. Actually, "swept" is a misnomer since no one will actually come to clean it up. How nice for the assholes to light-off all their pyrotecnics and leave the aftermath for someone else to clean.

Many residents of Hawaii complain every year about the smoke that is so thick it resembles London straight out of a Jack the Ripper tale. Complaints of asthma and other health problems are on the forefront of the news this time of year but the chants of "tradition" seem to drown out the pleas of the people who are sick of the bullshit.

I love hearing about the 'traditions' here in Hawaii when they are a pain in the ass. Just one more front to cover up the stupidity of some of the people who live here.

So, perhaps in a few days time I will post something not so down-in-the-dumps but this happened to be on my mind at the moment. But to both my readers of this blog I wish you a safe, prosperous, STD free, and 'normal' New Year.

  1. Happy New Year and welcome back!

I remember going to a big street festival in Zurich, and I've hardly ever seen anything so crazy. So many people you could hardly breathe, and the trash was overflowing to the point where it was about ankle-high, it seemed.

Then when I woke up the next morning, miraculously it was all gone...just spotless. They're weird, but the Swiss have the cleaning thing DOWN.
